Two 7th grade girls went on a scavenger hunt and could not wait to check one activity
off the list. We looked for a while, but found no one. As we got into the car and headed out of the parking lot to our next adventure, they saw exactly what they had been searching for.
The hungry.
The lost.
The least of these.
They screamed with excitement to spend every dollar they had to buy this dear homeless woman named Amy a meal. One girl, Lauren, had a 5 dollar gift card and $2.00, and the other, Morgan, had $3.00. Amy and her boyfriend had wanted a meal all day, but no one had come...until now. As Amy ordered, I whispered to the girls that if she went over their $10.00 I would pay for it, yet they did not seem worried. The girls stood with huge smiles on their faces as the woman behind the register said the total: $9.55 please. They gave all that they had. Before we left, we asked Amy how we could best pray for her and her boyfriend. Morgan grabbed her hand, and started a prayer circle in the middle of Chick-Fil-A and she began to pray. A sweet simple prayer that was music to Our Fathers ears.
I want what these 13 year olds have. A fearless faith.
A knowledge that PERFECT LOVE drives out ALL fear.
Friends & Family.
The story above is just one of many that I can share from our in town retreat we had a couple weekends ago. We had 12 students give their life to Christ, either as a renewal of a promise forgotten or as a first time surrender. Isn't that news alone perfect to bask in the glory of our sweet Savior and the work HE has done! I had a student that I have been praying for come to me and say, "I want my life to have a purpose. I don't want to be known just as the funny and loud girl." I watched her thirst for what truly quenches.
I could go on and on about stories such as these, but first I want to share some direct responses to your financial giving.
- Every other week I have been able to meet up and have dinner with a girl that has had life altering things happen to her. We have been going through a book that deals specifically what she has been through. I was so encouraged in our last meeting where she said, "This reminds me that I am not alone in the way I feel." For her, that was a pivotal step!
- I have been able to support the students in going to their events and encourage them towards attending a church community.
- We have started a girls bible study that is redefining what true beauty is. I have seen these girls go to a place of venerability they have never gone before.
- Our peer mediation through Judson High School has been phenomenal. I have been able to come alongside the school social worker and help her in anyway possible. I am currently working on several display cases for the school. Last time I helped her she said, "I am going to want to become a religious person now!" and I laugh inside and think, "YES!"
I will leave you with one last story from our retreat. In our small group we had a challenge from Matthew 4:4 "Man does not live by bread alone, but by every word that comes from the mouth of God." All 8 middle school girls sat in reflection as they thumbed through their bibles looking for a passage that spoke to them personally. I sat in awe as they articulated perfectly what WORD the Lord had brought to them during their quiet time. We concluded that we wanted what the woman at the well received.
"Everyone who drinks of this water will thirst again; but whoever drinks of the water that I will give him shall NEVER thirst; but the water that i will give him will become in him a well of water springing up to eternal life." John 4:1-24
What an amazing and fulfilling promise! I have seen these kids thirst for the Lord and for His righteousness. Thank you for your continual prayers and support. Trust that the Lord IS moving.
Great and Mighty is HE.
